Service at Sea is a community. A community where people come together to work, learn, and serve. We value community, building community and connecting with community — we believe that our mode of transportation sends a message. We want to travel slowly and with a schedule flexible enough to enable us to meet the needs of the people and organizations that we serve.

Our corporation, The GIS Institute, has been formed to enable our mission, “to help put mapping technologies into use by people who are trying to make the world a better place.” We are a federally designated 501(c)(3) non-profit entity, which enables access to funding sources we may not have reached without, among many other advantages.

We are people. We are volunteers, students, faculty, GIS industry professionals, and conservationists from the remote places of this earth. We are adventurers that go out and do it, and the supporters who prefer to participate in other meaningful roles. We are creative, joyous, and free, and we have a desire to share our passions and our calling.
